when making reservations for dining on line do you pay when the reservations are made

    Hiya, Lorene!

Welcome to planDisney.  One of my favorite parts of planning a Walt Disney World vacation is when it's time to make advance dining reservations.  Not only do I love dreaming of all the incredible dishes to enjoy, but since the dining reservation window opens 60 days in advance, it also means my next visit is right around the corner.  Since you'll be arriving in just a few short weeks, now is the perfect time to make those reservations –– especially if you're hoping to grab a table at exciting new restaurants like Space 220 and Steakhouse 71.

Most table-service restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort do not require you to prepay for your meal –– currently, the only exception to this is Cinderella's Royal Table, which requires full prepayment at the time of booking.  Instead, most dining experiences require your credit card information only to secure the reservation.  Reservations must be canceled by 11:59 PM EST on the day before the reservation and your card will not be charged unless you fail to cancel before that time or you don't show up at all.  If this happens, you will be charged a per-person penalty fee.  Should you need to cancel a dining reservation, you can quickly do so in the My Disney Experience mobile app, as well as online or by calling (407) 824-1391.  And if the number in your dining party changes for some reason, don't worry –– you'll only be charged that penalty if nobody shows up for the reservation.

If you're searching for reservations at a specific restaurant that isn't showing any availability, please don't get discouraged –– availability changes all the time!  I've even been able to snag a table a day or two in advance, so be sure to keep checking back.  And if you're the kind of person that likes a little spontaneity with your meals, you should definitely explore one of my favorite features on the My Disney Experience app, which is the ability to join the Walk-Up List for nearby participating Walt Disney World restaurants.  All you'll need to do is tap on "Check Dining Availability", add your party size, select the current date, and tap "Now" at the bottom of the screen –– you'll find nearby restaurants with current availability and the option to join the list.  It's an easy and convenient way to add a little spice to your plans!

Thanks for visiting planDisney, Lorene.  Wherever you choose to dine, I hope your upcoming visit is filled with delicious dishes from beginning to end!

    Have a Magical Day,
    Amy
