Hi Nonna,
Welcome to planDisney! I’m sure you are in disbelief that your grandson is graduating high school. What an incredible accomplishment! I am sure that he will do incredible things in this world, and I’m wishing him all the pixie dust and well wishes as he bravely takes on his next adventure (though I’m not sure he needs it with support from his amazing Nonna).
Speaking of adventure, building a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop is such a great way to celebrate graduation and his serving trip. As far as I know, Nonna, Savi’s will still be available in May 2027. There have been no announcements to the contrary at this time. While I would love to guarantee that Savi’s will be open in May, I know that experiences at Walt Disney World are subject to change. My recommendation is to first keep an eye on
Disney Parks Blog. All announcements about what is happening in the theme parks, including closures, are typically posted there (you can also find them on the
Savi’s webpage near the top). My second recommendation is to use the “Check Available Days” function on the Savi’s webpage. If Savi’s is operating, you will see the dates shown in blue on the calendar. Remember, you cannot make reservations until 60 days before you want to do the experience, so when you look, the dates will likely be “grayed out.” But if the dates leading up to your date are blue, it is usually a good indicator that yours will be as well (unless a closure is called out on the main page).
I hope this was helpful, Nonna. Before I let you go, I know I talked about Savi’s, but other lightsaber experiences are typically available as well. Your grandson can also build a plastic lightsaber, typically at either
Tatooine Traders in Hollywood Studios or
Once Upon a Toy in Disney Springs. These don't have to be scheduled in advance, so you'll just need to go to the location and see if it is available the day you visit. I will say that if your grandson intends to have the lightsaber as more of a collectible than a toy, then Savi’s is probably the lightsaber experience you are hoping for. The lightsabers at Tatooine Traders and Once Upon a Toy are more toy-quality, so keep that in mind. If you need anything else, please come back and see us.
Happy Planning,
Ashley F.
