We're making our first trip to Disney World in March, neither my husband or I have ever been. What do you recommend for dining options? We've booked a few places but now I'm second guessing our choices. My son is 2 and loves Mickey & Jake!

    Hi Kendra,

I love helping families that are planning their first Disney vacation! I know you are going to have a magical time and create memories that you'll cherish forever.

Character dining can be some of the most fun, memorable experiences that you share as a family. However, with a two year old you need to be cautiously optimistic. If your little guy doesn't like sitting with Santa or the Easter Bunny, chances are he won't be too excited to see life size versions of his favorite cartoon characters.

Don't worry though. When my youngest was 2, she did not want to have anything to do with characters up close. The cast members at restaurants are super skilled when it comes to helping little ones enjoy their experience. Most characters are really skilled at creating distance between themselves and a tentative little one. As a parent, my best advice is to not worry.

Having said all that, any of the character dining experiences are fantastic! I do recommend Hollywood & Vine for breakfast or lunch. Jake is usually on hand there along with some other Disney Junior favorites. Chef Mickey's is a popular spot, but can be a little crowded and sometimes overwhelming. Breakfast at 'Ohana is a little more relaxed and still features Mickey.Dinner at Garden Grill with Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale is also a fun treat. If your little one likes Winnie the Pooh, try Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
