We have MagicBands from November 2016. Can we use them when we go int February 2019? Or is the technology out of date?

Hello Melissa, and thank you for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question about MagicBands.

It sounds like you are familiar with how MagicBands can make your trip to the Walt Disney World Resort a breeze. This wearable piece of technology does so much for you, including unlocking the door to your Disney Resort Hotel room, gives you access to your Disney Theme Park admission tickets, allows you to redeem your FastPass+ selections, add PhotoPass Photos to your Memory Maker account, charge food and merchandise to your room account, and look pretty stylish on your wrist the entire time.

MagicBands are linked to your My Disney Experience account and use RFID chip technology to access all of your information when you tap them to a touch point. Unfortunately, MagicBands have a single use, non-replaceable battery that is only good for about 2 years. The MagicBands you have from 2016, may not be operational when you arrive. I would recommend that you accept and customize MagicBands offered to you as a guest of staying at select Disney Resort Hotels. If you are not staying on property, you can always purchase MagicBands online and link them to your account. I have over a dozen active MagicBands linked to my account and I always carry more than one with me, in case one of my older Limited Edition MagicBands stops working. I hope that helps to answer your question. If you need any more help before you arrive, please come back and visit us again.

    See ya real soon,
