Can we use MagicBand+ to make purchases and as my room key at Disneyland? And can they be used as your room key on board a Disney Cruise?

Welcome to planDisney, Mary! Your Disneyland adventure is just around the corner. How exciting! We’re so glad you stopped by to ask about the MagicBand+ and how it connects to your stay. Let’s take a closer look together.

While MagicBand+ offers several fun and practical features at the Disneyland Resort, there are a few differences compared to how it functions at Walt Disney World or aboard a Disney Cruise. At this time, MagicBand+ cannot be used as a hotel room key or as a payment method at Disneyland Resort hotels or within the theme parks. However, if you’re staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, you can use the Disneyland app as a digital room key. Just open the app, select your hotel reservation, and tap “Unlock Door.” It’s quick, convenient, and works like a little sprinkle of digital pixie dust.

That said, there are still plenty of ways your MagicBand+ adds to the magic of your day. It makes scanning into the parks a breeze, allows you to redeem Lightning Lane return times with just a tap, and automatically links your Disney PhotoPass pictures. Beyond convenience, the MagicBand+ also joins in on the fun. During World of Color Happiness!, your band lights up and pulses in time with the music (it’s almost as if it’s dancing along!). And over at Haunted Mansion Holiday, your MagicBand+ flashes an eerie red as Sally whispers, “Hurry back…”

You can also use your MagicBand+ for a special, complimentary interactive experience celebrating Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary. As you explore the five original lands of Disneyland Park, you’ll discover secret interaction points where your band unlocks little moments of nostalgia and surprise. Some locations even offer a collectible souvenir printout; a small but delightful memento of your magical day.

Here’s one last Q-Tip for you, Mary: before your visit, link your MagicBand+ through the Disneyland app. Log into your MyDisney account, tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner, scroll to “MagicBand+,” and tap the blue plus sign to add your band. Once paired, you’ll be ready to tap into the magic!

If you have any other questions about making the most of your visit, we’re always happy to help here at planDisney.

Wishing you a truly magical and adventure-filled Disney day!
