Do we have to have a MagicBand+ to use our Genie+ service?

Hiya, Courtney. Thanks for stopping by planDisney! Your visit to The Happiest Place on Earth is just around the corner. I am happy to answer your excellent question, so let's get you ready to go!

Courtney, a MagicBand+ is an awesome, optional accessory for your trip to the Disneyland Resort. You can link your theme park ticket to a MagicBand+ and it will give you hands-free access to theme park entry (with a valid ticket and theme park reservation), Disney PhotoPass pictures, and easy check-in to your Lighting Lane return times with Genie+. It unlocks a whole new world of fun, as the MagicBand+ interacts with areas throughout the theme parks, like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland Park and Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure Park. And there are so many adorable designs that each person in your party is bound to find one they like. All that to say, you don't need a MagicBand+ but they are so much fun!

If you forego a MagicBand+ on your visit, you can use your phone and the Disneyland Mobile App to navigate your day, Courtney. In the app, you can do virtually everything that you can with a MagicBand+. However, my phone battery tends to drain quickly on Disneyland days, and I highly recommend bringing a mobile charger or purchasing a Portable Charging System in the parks to keep your phone charged during your visit. You can find the Portable Phone Charging System Kiosks by using the search function in the Disneyland Mobile App. Bonus: If the charging system runs out, you can swap them at one of the kiosks throughout the day. Currently, these systems are the same Fuel Rods that are sold in Walt Disney World so you can use them on trips to both resorts.

One last note, Courtney. If you have a MagicBand+ from Walt Disney World, you can also use it at Disneyland! You will need to add the band to your ticket in the Disneyland App. I also recently learned that you can use MagicBand+ aboard Disney Cruise Line, too. So it is an accessory you can take on many Disney vacations!

I hope this answers your question, Courtney. Please be sure to visit us again with any other planning questions. I am always happy to help!

    See you in the parks,
