Magical express vs. Lyft from mco? Leaving Detroit at 10am, arrive in Orlando at 1, traveling with a 4 and 2 year old. I’ve heard ME can take an hour&half, and staying at GF i heard it’s the last stop, wondering if Lyft will be faster/easier? Thoughts?

    Hi, there!

Maria, I'm so happy to hear you're planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. And with little ones in tow! You and your family are sure to have a magical stay.

Disney's Magical Express is one of my favorite perks of staying at a Disney Resort hotel. As a mom of three, I love that I can count on this complimentary motorcoach service to get my family safely and quickly on our way to making magical memories! Disney's Magical Express even picks up our checked luggage and delivers it directly to our room. How convenient is that?

I totally understand your concern about the amount of time it will take between landing at Orlando International Airport and arriving at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. It's so hard for little ones to sit through a flight and then have to sit again for ground transportation! Let's chat about using a rideshare service versus relying on Disney's Magical Express.

My family and I just returned from a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. It was the very first time we didn't stay at a Disney Resort hotel (we had free housing that we just couldn't pass up), so it was also the first time that we had to find transportation once we arrived at Orlando International Airport. We decided to use a rideshare service, and we quickly learned that it was a bit challenging to request a ride that provided a car seat for our youngest kiddo. We didn't travel with a car seat because we didn't need one more thing to be juggling through the airport, but that meant that we needed to wait almost 45-minutes for a vehicle that could accommodate our little one. My kids got super antsy waiting on the curb for our ride and by the time we actually got in the vehicle, they were having a very difficult time sitting still for our 40-minute ride to the house (our house was about a 5-minute ride from Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa). All in all, it took us almost an hour and a half to arrive to our destination. The ride wasn't cheap either, costing us about $75 once we paid a tip!

It's true that it can take up to an hour and a half from the time you check-in with Disney's Magical Express to the time you arrive at your Disney Resort hotel, but I can assure you that my children have never had any trouble with the wait. There's a fun video to watch before boarding the motorcoach and videos are played during the ride too! The videos are a combination of footage from the parks (my kids just love pointing out their favorite Characters) and classic Disney cartoons. Car seats are not needed on Disney's Magical Express, so I appreciate knowing that I can leave ours at home. And again, they take care of our checked luggage so we don't need to worry about hauling that with us either!

While the free housing was great for our last Disney vacation, I can tell you that we very much missed the convenience of Disney's Magical Express (and all the other perks of staying at Disney Resort hotel). It just makes traveling with small children a breeze!

I hope this was helpful, Maria. Please let me know if you have any other questions about your Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
