Hiya, Philip! Welcome to planDisney! Your family's very first Disneyland Resort adventure is just a little more than a month away! I'm so excited for you; the first trip is always extra special and filled with memories you'll cherish forever!
You're staying at my absolute favorite hotel,
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa! It's like stepping into a giant hug of rustic charm. Plus, you're hoping to dine at my favorite spot—
Storytellers Cafe! You, my friend, have excellent taste!
Now, Philip, I do have a little bit of news that might make you go, "Oh bother!" like our friend Winnie the Pooh. Our beloved Storytellers Cafe will be getting a magical makeover (refurbishment) during your visit. That's why you haven't seen any reservations pop up for mid-March. I know it's not the news you were hoping for, but don't you worry, we're not going to let that dampen our spirits! Even when things don't go exactly as planned, there's always a "happily ever after" to be found at the Disneyland Resort! And guess what? Your
character dining dreams can still come true!
Over at the Disneyland Hotel, our pal Goofy is cooking up a storm of fun at
Goofy's Kitchen! It's an entertaining dining experience where you can meet Goofy and some of his best pals while you enjoy a yummy feast. It's like a party and a meal, all rolled into one!
There's also another character dining adventure waiting for you inside Disneyland Park: Minnie & Friends - Breakfast in the Park at the
Plaza Inn! You can enjoy a delicious buffet, Mickey waffles galore, and the chance to meet some of your favorite Disney friends. Just remember, since this one's inside the park, you'll need a valid ticket and park reservation.
Now, Philip, snagging a character dining reservation can be a bit like finding the Genie's lamp—a real treasure! These spots are more popular than a magic carpet ride over Agrabah, so you'll want to be ready to pounce when they become available. Reservations open 60 days in advance, so it's possible they're already filled. But here's a tip from a seasoned park-goer: Keep checking! Guests’ plans change all the time, and reservations can magically appear. Keep an eye on the
dining reservations page or check the
Disneyland mobile app. Just tap the plus sign (+) at the bottom, then "Check Dining Availability". Check early, check often, and you might just snag a spot!
If you’re still looking for a quick and tasty bite while you're at the Grand Californian, fear not!
Hearthstone Lounge is extending its hours and offering a breakfast buffet while Storytellers Cafe is closed. I also highly recommend popping into
GCH Craftsman Grill. It's my go-to for a quick breakfast or snack, especially when I'm racing to rope drop! Their grab-and-go options are perfect for stashing in your backpack.
No matter what dining adventures you have, Philip, I'm certain your family's first trip to the Disneyland Resort will be filled with pixie dust and memories that will last a lifetime. If any other questions pop up as you're planning, please don't hesitate to send them our way—we're always happy to help!
