magic kingdom on the weekend versus during the week

Hi there Ashley, and welcome to planDisney!

A question that I'm often asked is whether there's a better time or day of the week to head to the theme parks, which can sometimes be a tricky thing to answer! As a former Cast Member I would've happily said that "every day is the perfect day to come", but I've now completed enough research and collected enough data from wait times to determine that there are in fact days that I'd personally choose over others for a Magic Kingdom Park visit at various times of the year:

    • Visiting Magic Kingdom Park on a weekday will often be the better decision in my personal opinion, especially on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Despite Block-out dates for Cast Members and restrictions on availability for select Annual Passholders, the weekend is almost always going to be popular due to the additional local guests who may be free from work or school as well as folks and families who have made their way to Orlando for a Walt Disney World Resort weekend.
    • Due to this, I have also found Friday evenings to be full of folks looking to kick off their weekends with a bang - quite literally as they flock for fireworks and nighttime entertainment. I've also tracked a trend among those guests at Disney Resort Hotels who choose to begin their stay by starting off their week with a Magic Kingdom Monday, so I always recommend breaking away from the crowd to experience the other theme parks on those days.
This is however not a hard rule and depending on the holiday celebrations and festivals that take place throughout the year, this could drastically affect crowd levels as well as the hours of operation on the week of your visit. Generally speaking, weekdays can sometimes be just as busy when children are out of school so it's a wise idea to begin watching wait times on the My Disney Experience App around a time of year that you're interested in planning for, to get an idea of the ebb and flow of just how popular each day is compared to the next. In the meantime, don't forget to keep an eye out on the Disney Parks Blog for any future happenings that could affect the days that you choose to visit, and come back to planDisney again for our tips and tricks!

May your next Magic Kingdom day be the Best Day Ever - whichever one you choose!
