Hi moms! Does Magic Kingdom reach capacity on New Years Day? Arriving that afternoon and would love to see the holiday decorations. Thankyou!

Hi Lucy!  It is impossible to predict the crowds for the parks but we can give you info using past numbers.  Usually the Magic Kingdom is the first park to reach capacity on New Years Eve. Once this happens the gates will be closed to any further guests and those who do not plan ahead can often be disappointed.

It is not as common for this park to reach capacity on New Years Day.  Perhaps it is because many guests are sleeping late and taking it easy after the previous late night.  For my family we would have to be in the room due to the men watching the football games on the television!  In any case you should have an opportunity to visit and see the holiday decorations.

I suggest when you check in stop and see the resort concierge or guest service cast member and have them check on the park capacity.  This would be best so you don't head over to the park only to find it closed.  They have a color system that alerts all the resorts when a park is close to closing so they should be able to guide you whether you go or not!

    Enjoy your upcoming Disney vacation!
