We are going to the Magic Kingdom for just one day on August 19th. Do we have to make a reservation or can we buy them when we arrive? IF we have to make a reservation what happens if the weather is bad like a wash-out?

Hey Howdy Hey Penny and welcome to planDisney!

I am so excited to hear that you are planning to visit us in the Most Magical Place on Earth really soon! It sounds like we need to talk about your Theme Park Ticket options during your stay so let's get to it.

New this year, Disney has updated their policy on Theme Park Reservations. Guests purchasing date-based tickets no longer need reservations for their time in the parks. These ticket options are the ones most frequently purchased online or in person at the ticket windows. So if you are thinking of purchasing tickets with either option, you shouldn't have to worry about making reservations.

When it comes to purchasing the tickets, you are more than welcome to buy them at the ticket window on the day of your visit. You may find that purchasing your tickets ahead of time online might be a little cheaper. Tickets are usually virtual these days and are accessible either with your MagicBand, MagicMobile Service or with a Key to the Kingdom card you can pick up at a ticket window as you arrive in the parks.

As with anything outdoors, inclement weather can pose a big issue with the enjoyment of outdoor activities. While it is very rare that Disney will close the parks, they do make every effort to keep them operational even on the days it is rainy. Most attractions will still take place unless heavy rain or lightning is spotted. We have found that on rainy days it is best to embrace the challenge, don our rain gear and make the best of it! Many people will avoid the parks on those days and as the rain slows down, you can get many attractions knocked out with shorter wait times.

While we never shy away from the parks with rain, I get that not everyone is up for touring the parks in the rain! Theme Park tickets are non-refundable however Disney does make all efforts to help you out in times like these. In most cases, Disney will allow you to use the amount paid for unused tickets for the purchase of new ticket dates. All ticket prices vary by date and by season so you may be responsible for any difference in price if you change your tickets to a more expensive date.

I hope this information was helpful so you can better understand your options on your upcoming trip. I wish for a Magical day full of sunshine and blue skies so you can enjoy Magic Kingdom. If you have any other questions please let us know, we are always happy to help!

    To Infinity and Beyond,
