We will be in the Magic Kingdom on my daughter's 7th birthday. I would love to do a birthday photo with her holding a number 7 balloon in front of the castle. Would I be able to take a balloon in the park and have it blown up?

Hi there, Carrie! Welcome back to planDisney.

First and foremost, happy birthday to your princess! I have celebrated my birthday at the Walt Disney World Resort and I can tell you: there is nothing like a magical birthday spent at Mickey’s house. You are going to have a very merry unbirthday party at Magic Kingdom Park! Hurray!

There is something so magical about balloons. This Disney Parks Blog article about the balloon room at Magic Kingdom Park was positively dreamy, and the image of being “hugged” by a roomful of Mickey balloons makes my heart smile. As noted in the article, balloons are filled backstage, so there isn’t a balloon seller who could fill your special “7” balloon. But don't let this news get you deflated, because I have some ideas for you!

I bought giant number balloons for my children for the first day of school, and I found a variety of mylar balloons that you inflate yourself. It comes with a little straw you insert into the balloon, and it was surprisingly easy and quick to fill – so much so that I celebrated a milestone last week and my kids found one and filled it up themselves to surprise me. I found mine on Amazon, and there were lots of color and number options.

If that’s not what you had in mind, you could stop at a grocery store on your way to Magic Kingdom Park and have it filled there. If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel and won’t have a car, a quick rideshare trip probably wouldn’t be costly. Another idea, if you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, is to contact Disney Floral & Gifts to see what kinds of celebration options they might be able to dream up for your little girl’s big day.

Be sure to pick up a celebration button for her at Guest Relations, or any of the gift shops along Main Street, U.S.A. This button tells Cast Members and fellow Guests that it’s a special day, and it’s lovely to get good wishes throughout the day. I also recommend stopping a PhotoPass photographer on Main Street, U.S.A. for the photo – they will be able to get some great family photos and shots of her alone in front of Cinderella Castle. What a special keepsake! You could even put a photo and the birthday button in a shadow box for a very special souvenir.

Have so much birthday fun this week, Carrie!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
