Welcome, welcome Crystal! We are so excited you've found planDisney for your vacation planning questions!
It sounds like you're considering joining the
Magic Key Holder family. How exciting! A new Magic Key pass is
valid for one year from the date of first use for entry to a Disneyland Resort theme park or the first use of the parking benefit (if applicable). So, it's absolutely possible to purchase a Magic Key Pass and wait until your next visit to Disneyland Resort to activate it. Then, from the date you scan your pass for entry to the theme park or parking structure, you'll have one full year to enjoy all the magical benefits awaiting you as a Magic Key Holder!
For example, did you know that Magic Key Holders have access to a limited pre-sale for
Oogie Boogie Bash - A Disney Halloween Party tickets? These tickets will go on sale exclusively to Magic Key Holders on June 27th (no earlier than 9 A.M. Pacific Time) and to the general public on June 29th. Magic Key Holders are also awaiting the news of a "special offering" during these separately ticketed event nights, and I'll be keeping my eye on the
Disney Parks Blog to hear all the spellbinding announcements!
With respect to your question about the reservation calendar, it is possible that even when a date is not blocked out on the
Magic Key calendar, the park reservations for that date may be completely booked up. In that case, you would not see the icons indicating reservation availability on the calendar. However, don't lose faith! Sometimes, Guests will change their plans and cancel a reservation which will open up availability for you to book! Don't hesitate to check back regularly, as
park reservation availability really can change day-to-day!
I hope this is helpful guidance, Crystal. Please feel welcome to stop by
planDisney anytime you have questions about your upcoming Disneyland Resort vacation! We love helping our fellow Guests plan their most magical memories with their loved ones.
Wishing you
Wondrous Journeys,
Tishra
