If I have a magic key pass that was never used, can It be applied towards Disney tickets if I do not want to renew an annual pass?

Greetings, Gail, and welcome to planDisney! I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been able to use your Magic Key pass. That wasn’t the enchanted outcome you were hoping for! But I’m happy to help you navigate your options.

Gail, according to the Magic Key Terms and Conditions, the amount paid for an unactivated, expired Magic Key pass may be applied towards the purchase of a new Magic Key pass (subject to availability) as long as the new pass purchase price is equal to or greater than the amount originally paid. It also states that the amount paid for the original pass cannot be used for any purpose other than the purchase of another pass. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to apply the value towards the purchase of standard theme park tickets or get a refund.

    You have a few options:

    • If the pass hasn't yet expired: The pass can be activated within one year of the date of purchase. If that date hasn't arrived yet, you can use your pass to make a theme park reservation and scan into Disneyland or California Adventure. The 12-month countdown will start at that point, giving you plenty of time to make many fun memories.
    • If the pass has expired: You have the option to apply the value you originally paid toward a new pass that is currently available (provided it is equal to or greater in value than the original pass). At the time of writing this, the Imagine Key (for Southern California Residents) and the Enchant Key are available for sale. We don't currently know when the Believe Key and Inspire Key will be available again. I suggest following the Disneyland Magic Key account on Instagram, as announcements would likely be made there.
    • Do nothing and revisit this once you're ready to purchase a Magic Key pass, and use standard theme park tickets in the meantime.
    • Call the Magic Key Holders line if you want to speak with a Cast Member more about the terms and conditions of the Magic Key pass.
Gail, I do hope you consider using the Magic Key pass. It will unlock a year's worth of Disneyland Resort fun, and this is a great year to do it, too. The Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration will continue through summer 2026, and we're currently in the special time of year when the parks are extra festive with seasonal overlays. There is amazing entertainment to choose from, as well as delicious food and drink options. You can spend an entire day just sampling popular items.

I'm lucky enough to visit the Disneyland Resort often, since I live locally, and I'm in awe of how easily I still uncover new things despite my frequent visits. Most recently, I used a few quarters to get printed fortunes from the Audio-Animatronics fortune-telling attractions.

All that said, if now isn't the right time, Gail, then maybe it will be someday in the future – the Disneyland Resort will be waiting for you. If you have any other questions, please reach out. We're always happy to help here at planDisney.

    Wishing you magic,
    Kriss
