The answer is, it all depends on what you'd like to get out of your Magic Key between now and your expiration date.
When you upgrade a
Magic Key at the
Disneyland Resort, you'll pay the full difference between what you originally paid for your current pass and the current price of the new pass tier. Because of that, some Guests choose to upgrade right away if they want access to reservation dates that aren't available with their current pass or if they'd like to start enjoying the higher discount benefits as soon as possible.
One important detail to keep in mind is that upgrades are subject to availability when you request them. If a higher Magic Key level becomes unavailable, you may not be able to upgrade later.
My Magic Key also expires this fall, and I'm personally waiting to upgrade since my renewal window is just around the riverbend. For me, that makes the most sense, but the best choice depends on your plans and whether those additional benefits would be valuable before your pass expires in October, since you'll still need to renew your Magic Key at the full pass level when the time comes.
If you decide you'd like to upgrade now, you can do it directly in the
Disneyland Mobile App:
1. Tap the three-line menu icon at the bottom of the screen.
2. Select My Tickets & Passes.
3. Choose your Magic Key pass.
4. Tap Upgrade Magic Key.
I hope this helps you decide whether to upgrade now or wait until you're closer to your expiration date. The good news is that you can
renew your Magic Key beginning 30 days before it expires, which means sometime in September you'd be eligible to renew and potentially move to a higher pass level, if available.
