How does magic hour work if you are staying at a resort? Do you need to book ahead or can you just visit that park? From what I read you can do 1 magic hours per day. With Hopper passes can you spend the day at one park and go to another for magic hours?

    Hi Nichole,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Extra Magic Hours are, for me, one of the best benefits to staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, and I’m so glad you asked about how to get the most magic out of them!

Here’s how Extra Magic Hours work: each day, Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels will have access to one of the four theme parks before or after operating hours. Usually they are one hour before park opening or for two hours after park closing, although that varies depending on the time of year. Checking park hours is your best way to know when and where Extra Magic Hours are occurring; please note that these times are subject to change, so always take a look at the Times Guide you will receive upon resort check-in, or check the park information TV station in your resort room. You do not need to book ahead for Extra Magic Hours; just show up at the park and have fun! When you scan your MagicBand or ticket at the gate, the Cast Member will see that you are a Resort Guest and grant you the magical access.
Extra Magic Hours are an excellent way to access attractions that will be lined up later in the day while the lines are shorter. I like to use Extra Magic Hours to ride attractions I wasn’t able to make a FastPass+ reservation for, and it’s also a great time to get a second (or third!) ride on your family’s favorite attractions. Please note that not all attractions and dining are open during Extra Magic Hours.

Nichole, with a Park Hopper ticket, you are able to leave one park and head to another at any point during the day, so you could certainly attend Extra Magic Hours at one park and then hop to another.

Wishing you an “extra magical” vacation,
