Hi, I have a magic and from 2018. Is it still good to link to the annual pass I am going to buy?

    Hello Courtney!

Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney. I'm happy to help as you prepare to join the Annual Passholder family.

I purchased my first Annual Pass last spring and just renewed for another year of magic. I have loved being able to visit the parks more frequently and take advantage of discounts on select dining, merchandise, and Enchanting Extras Collection experiences. Be sure to review the current discounts so you can begin taking advantage of them right away.

I couldn't help but snag a Cheshire Cat MagicBand+ when they first debuted, but I have many of the original MagicBands still linked to My Disney Experience Account. Your existing band should link to your shiny new Annual Pass with no issues, but you may notice that not all the features on attractions will work with that band.  Before we upgraded to MagicBand+ my family noticed that certain attraction photos weren't linking anymore and that our names didn't show up on the exit screens of "it's a small world." This may have been unique to us and will certainly not prevent you from enjoying the parks, scanning in at the entrance turnstiles or Lightning Lane entries, or even unlocking your Disney Resorts Collection hotel room door. I just wanted to mention in case you noticed similar issues.

One thing I love about the newer MagicBand+ is the interactive lights and vibrations that pair with nighttime spectaculars. I love hearing my children "ooh" and "aah" as their bands light up during Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom Park. I was also really impressed with the display during Fantasmic! at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Again, you'll still enjoy these magical performances without a light-up band, but it is a fun extra touch.

I hope this clears up any confusion, Courtney. If you run into any issues you can reach out to a Cast Member by phone for troubleshooting or even visit with Guest Relations in person at the parks.

    Wishing you a magical year!
