Can magic bands be used to open Disney hotel rooms and for gate and ride access and for payment like at WDW or is it just to interact with statues at DL? I have old magic bands and don’t want to buy new plus ones if they’re not really useful. Thanks!

Hey there, hi there, Susan! Welcome back to planDisney. We are so glad to see you are planning another Disney vacation!

As you are aware, MagicBand+ debuted at Disneyland Resort this past fall. As a Disneyland local, I love having MagicBand+ available to us, however, the features do differ between Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. Unfortunately, you cannot open your Disneyland Resort Hotel door or pay for items with your MagicBand+. At Disneyland, you will be able to tap into the parks, as well as your next Lightning Lane. You can also use your MagicBand+ for PhotoPass linking with PhotoPass Photographers, experience nighttime spectaculars, and do some bounty hunting in Batuu.

As you mentioned in your question, there are also some special Disney100 Celebration statues and medallions that you can interact with. The Disney100 Celebration is still going and you can enjoy some delicious celebratory treats. My favorite is the Disney100 Lemon Tea Cake. The Disney100 Stainless Steel Tumbler is adorable and it makes the perfect souvenir. Grab your drink in your tumbler and find a spot on Main Street, U.S.A., to watch the "Magic Happens" Parade. For someone who isn't a huge parade person, I tell everyone it's a must-do. It's such a phenomenal production!

Susan, I hope this helps you make a decision on whether a MagicBand+ is something you want to purchase for your trip. See you real soon!
