Hi Debbie,
Thanks for visiting planDisney! I am happy to let you know that
MagicBand+ are used at both Disneyland and California Adventure. Here at Disneyland and California Adventure, you can use your MagicBand+ for three main things:
Park Entry: You can link your MagicBand+ to your ticket through the Disneyland app. I do this for both myself and my little one. She enjoys scanning herself into the park. I got her a new Little Mermaid band for her birthday (shhhh)!
Lightning Lane: You can use your MagicBand+ to redeem your Lightning Lane reservations. There are scanners at the entrance of the Lightning Lane where you can either scan your park ticket or tap your MagicBand+. Personally this is why I love my MagicBand+ the most, because I don’t have to fiddle with my phone; everyone in my group can just scan themselves in quickly.
PhotoPass: When you take a photo with any Disney PhotoPass photographer, you can easily scan your MagicBand+ to link the pictures to your account. I was at a park meet up and took a large group photo ( with at least 100 people) and it was great to just get our group photos really quick with a tap of my band.
I’ve seen many people get by without a MagicBand+ at Disneyland, so don’t feel pressured to buy one. If you have traveled to Disney World, and have a MagicBand+, they are compatible with the California Parks.
Debbie, I hope this information is helpful. If you are a Star Wars fan, I hope you will be able to catch the
Season of the Force at Disneyland (Starting March 28). This is where Star Wars takes center stage at Disneyland. There will be a new nightly projection show called “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga.” Be sure to check out Hyperspace Mountain in Tomorrowland. This is my favorite version of Space Mountain.
Wishing you a magical trip!
