Magic Bands...I'm a WDW Magic Kingdom first timer and I'm wondering if I should purchase these?

Hey Howdy Hey Alma and welcome to planDisney!

Woo-hoo, first time trip to Disney! I bet you are getting super excited for your big trip coming up real soon. There is so much to be super excited about not only for your first trip to Walt Disney World but looking forward to all a day in Magic Kingdom has to offer. MagicBands can be a touchy subject for some, including me that loves them and feels a vacation is not complete without them, but alas they are not totally necessary, so let's go through your options.

The release of MagicBands many years ago offered Guests the ability to tour the parks with everything linked to one convenient band. Everything from your room key, tickets and credit card for charging privileges all in one place made touring the parks so much more enjoyable. Well, the team at Disney is never satisfied with current standards and always looking for ways to improve the Guest experience while touring the parks. In the spring of 2021, Disney released Disney MagicMobile Service. This is something that is totally free and something you can set up through your My Disney Experience app. This gives every bit of convenience the MagicBand gave us, now through our smartphones.

Now with the option of setting up a completely free MagicMobile pass, Disney still does offer MagicBands for a price, but now not completely necessary like before. My nostalgic longing for times past still has me using MagicBands for my trips. My three girls love picking out the "right" one to represent their Disney personality for our trips and nothing to me says "Vacation Mode" quite like putting on your MagicBand before leaving for our trip.

MagicBands are completely up to you if you want to purchase them or not. If you need a reason to, I would suggest looking not only at the options available through your My Disney Experience app, but also check out ShopDisney. Here they have selections of MagicBands not always available through My Disney Experience and give you so many more reasons to select MagicBands for your upcoming trip. I would make sure that you have your MagicBands purchased well in advance of your trip or your MagicMobile pass set up before your trip so you have a way to interact with Disney technology.

I hope you have been and continue to enjoy planning your trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth. We cannot wait to welcome you soon! Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Have a Magical Day,
