We have magic bands that are about four years old. Should we get new ones or are they still good? Not sure if they have a battery life limit. Thank you.

    Hi Jane,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. MagicBands truly are your key to Walt Disney World, your access to your tickets, FastPass+ reservations, your hotel room and so much more.

Generally, the batteries in the MagicBands should be fully functioning for at least two years. I've certainly had a few that have lasted longer, but I don't recall trying one that is four years old. I'm told by some of my Moms Panel colleagues that they have noticed older MagicBands may not offer full function, such as automatically capturing your ride photos.

If you are staying in a Walt Disney World resort on this visit, you are entitled to a complimentary solid colored MagicBand for each registered guest. You may want to order those just to be sure you have no issues. Or resort guests can now choose from select designs for a discounted price.

I have a sentimental attachment to a few of my many MagicBands. With the MagicBand 2 design (the ones with the disc in the middle), you can continue to use the band if the battery inside the disc dies. Simply take a small screwdriver and remove the disc and replace it with the disc from a new complimentary MagicBand.

So that I always know exactly how old each MagicBand is, I add a date when I customize them online. For example, my current passholder band says WILMA2020 on the inside.

I hope that's helpful, Jane. If you are staying in a Disney resort, please remember that you can book your FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance, and that date is coming soon. Check back with us if you'd like recommendations for the best FastPass+ reservations. We're happy to assist. Enjoy!
