Mom and Child wearing Magic Bands

I have magic bands from 2021 for everyone in my family, but when I'm on the website planning my vacation I can only see the magic band linked to my name, is there anyway to see and make sure their magic bands are still linked to their name?

Welcome Home, Susan–and welcome to planDisney! It’s the best day ever whenever I get to talk about all things Disney Vacation Club with a fellow Member, and I’m here to go the distance to track down the information you’re looking for. We Susans have to stick together, right?

It looks like you’re prepping some MagicBands for your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation–so fun! In my experience, the battery on the original MagicBand lasts for about two years, but they are still very much usable due to the RFID chip. The battery enables some longer-distance capabilities (such as capturing attraction photos), but you should still be able to use your 2021 bands to enter the theme parks, open the door of your Resort Hotel, and scan into Lightning Lane entrances.

Susan, I checked my family’s bands on My Disney Experience a couple of months ago to sort out which ones were active, but it appears that there’s been an update since then for what you’re able to see. When I logged on while researching your question, like you I could only see my own MagicBands and cards.

I spoke with a few Cast Members who were able to confirm that there was a change to the permissions on the site. If your family members have their own My Disney Experience accounts, only they can see their MagicBands. This is the case for our family, as everyone is 13 or older and has their own account. If you have a younger child or another person with an account that you personally manage, you should be able to see those bands.

Even if you share plans with friends and family and can make plans for them, you will not be able to see their MagicBand in your account–but any dining reservations or Genie+ purchases you make will work with no issue as they will show up as eligible to add to your party. I suggest having your family log in to their accounts to see which bands are still active so you’re ready to roll for your trip next month!

If you decide not to use a MagicBand, I recently discovered the convenience of Disney MagicMobile, which allows you to use your mobile device for all of the functions of a MagicBand. We had an unexpected park day a couple of months ago and I had not brought a band, and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to use my phone. On our most recent trip, all four of us actually used MagicMobile and we had no issues!

Fellow Susan, it’s been a pleasure to help with your question! Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney and please don’t hesitate to reach out directly if I can assist with any other tips for DVC and Walt Disney World.
