Hi! I have Magic Bands we bought 2 years ago, and some 4 years old. Is there a way to know if they still work? I understand they run on batteries, but since some of them are personalized Magic Bands we wish to take them with us.

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Guadalupe! Thank you for bringing us such a great question!

Guadalupe, when MagicBands were first introduced, the estimated battery life was expected to be about 2-years. I personally have MagicBands that are older than that and they still work just fine!

There’s no way of knowing if your old MagicBands will work until you arrive and try them out at the touchpoint entrances at the theme parks. I do recommend bringing backups with you just in case.

From what I understand, your MagicBand will still work like admission cards, even if the battery life is gone. But the pixie-dust that picks up on those magical extras like attraction videos and photos might not be enough to get those magical memories to your My Disney Experience account. So, during your visit, if you notice you’re not seeing those special photos, I recommend swapping out your MagicBands for new ones.

Also, before you arrive, make sure the MagicBands you plan on using are active in your My Disney Experience account. To verify, simply login to your account, select MagicBands and cards, and check their status there.

I hope this helps answer your question. For any additional tips or planning questions, please do come back to see us.

    Wishing you a magical day,

    Emille
