We have magic bands from 2015, going back in 2021, is there a way to change the batteries? I’ve heard that the bands with dead batteries still work for entry but not photos on rides, can we still get our my memory photos though?

It's great to see you here today at the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Sam!

What did we even do in a time before MagicBands? Having the ability to access my Theme Park tickets, FastPass+ selections, and charge purchases to my Resort Hotel room by just tapping my wrist really is the ultimate convenience. Since your last trip to Walt Disney World Resort, MagicBands have undergone a bit of a reimagining and they look a little different than the ones you have! In late 2016, a new model called the MagicBand 2 was introduced and it is now the standard kind that you can buy. It's slightly different in shape than the ones that you currently have and the Mickey-head component in the center can now be removed if you wanted to swap them out and use them in different MagicBands that you own. The batteries last about two years and cannot be replaced, so if you want to use a MagicBand to enter the Theme Parks, collect your Disney PhotoPass pictures, or access your FastPass+ selections you will likely need to get some new ones.

The good news is that a MagicBand will be included for each guest on your reservation if you're staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel! You can choose from a complimentary selection of colors or you can upgrade, for a small fee, to one from a collection of MagicBands that feature designs inspired by Disney Parks and everyone's favorite new and classic movies. If you're not staying at a Resort Hotel you can browse the selection available for purchase on shopDisney and, of course, you'll find a wide range of MagicBands once you arrive for your vacation. I always find the best selection at large merchandise locations like World of Disney at Disney Springs or the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom Park!

    Have a magical day, Sam!
