Hi there, Tara! Welcome to planDisney!
Oh boy, a 2018 MagicBand? Now
THAT is a real blast from the past. Like finding a vintage E-Ticket! The short answer is it might still work, but it depends on the battery life.
MagicBands from that era run on an internal battery, and while some Guests have had theirs working years later, others have found their bands to be less magical over time.
Your vintage MagicBand will still have some working features, like Park Entry and Lightning Lane Access. Make sure your band is still linked to your
My Disney Experience account, so you can try tapping in at the park entrance or a Lightning Lane touchpoint to see if it still works. Staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel? Give it a try at your room door or for purchases,
but be ready with a backup, just in case.Something to note is that it’s possible the long-range features (like automatic attraction photos on rides or linking ride videos) may not work if the battery has run out. If your MagicBand doesn’t respond at touchpoints, it might be time to retire it and grab a new
MagicBand+. Not only are they super cute, but you’ll have a blast with all the extra magical features, like seeing them light up, vibrate, and interact with the parks!
Pro Tip: If you love nostalgia (like me!), you can still wear your old MagicBand just for fun while using a newer one for actual functionality. Or, if you’ve collected a few over the years, they make adorable keepsakes or even fun DIY projects.
Hope this helps, Tara! Wishing you a trip filled with magic, memories, and maybe even a shiny new MagicBand.
