I have a magic band that says Could not determine media state when I try to link it. How do I fix this?

Welcome to planDisney, Jason! We're thrilled you stopped by. But I'm not thrilled you're having technical difficulties with your MagicBand+. I love the ease of using my band to enter theme parks and scan into Lightning Lane entrances, but I understand the frustration that can come with operating errors. Let's troubleshoot to see if we can fix your issues so you can have a magical time when you arrive later this week.

Some initial steps to try are making sure your My Disney Experience mobile app is up to date. One easy way to do this is to delete and reinstall the app on your phone. Next, check that your band has updated software by opening the mobile app and tapping the MagicBands and More tile. Next, tap the tile with your name and select the band that's having problems. Under "MagicBand+ Updates," you should see a green check with Up to Date. If not, you'll see an option to update your band.

If your band isn't fully charged, this can also lead to linking issues. I've found that I have to give the band a final squeeze so it will snap firmly onto the charging dock. Fully charged bands will glow green in a complete ring around the face.

Once you've tried these steps, please contact the My Disney Experience/MagicBand+ line for assistance if you still need help. Inside the theme parks, you can visit any Guest Relations location with questions about your band.

One final tip is to use your band for charging privileges at many merchandise and dining locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort. With a valid credit card linked to your Disney Resort Hotel room, you can purchase many items with a tap of your band. I find this much more convenient than digging through my backpack for my wallet!

Jason, I'm sprinkling pixie dust your way so you'll have your MagicBand+ up and running soon. I hope your visit is practically perfect! Please stop by planDisney anytime.

    Magic awaits,
