Can a magic band be purchased and used without staying at a resort? We plan on getting a memory maker photo plan. Can the magic bands be used to purchase meals and items in the stores?

Hi, Tracy, and thanks for stopping by with your questions! MagicBands are such a fantastic addition to any Walt Disney World Resort visit. Currently, only guests of Walt Disney World Resort hotels will receive these as part of their stay. However, anyone can purchase one and link it to their My Disney Experience account. Doing so helps you discover all kinds of magical conveniences in the theme parks.

Once you purchase a MagicBand, either online before your trip or in various merchandise locations across the Resort, you will want to link it to your My Disney Experience account. If you need assistance with this, the Cast Members can help you during your purchase. You will then be able to access your theme park tickets and FastPass+ selections with a simple flick of your MagicBand-adorned wrist, as long as your theme park tickets are also linked to your account. The MagicBand will also give you an easy way to link to your Memory Maker purchase. As you take Disney's PhotoPass Service photos, have the photographer scan your MagicBand and  with a "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo," your photos will appear and be downloadable with Memory Maker.

Isn't all of this magically convenient? Well, there is one little downfall. At this time, only guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel are able to link a credit card to their MagicBand. So, you will still need to carry a payment source with you into the parks. Otherwise, your MagicBand has you covered! A quick tip for you - remove your MagicBand once you are outside the gates of Walt Disney World Resort. Otherwise, you may find yourself  trying to tap your way into airport security or to open the door at your home. Not that I would do that or anything. Nope, definitely not.
