Can a magic band from a previous year be used again

Greetings, Kathleen! Thank you so much for returning to the Disney Parks Moms Panel for help with your upcoming vacation! I just love MagicBands; they are what makes a Walt Disney World Resort vacation so special! I have a collection of MagicBands in many colors and now, two varieties of shape.
The oldest of my MagicBands are from early 2014, now over three years old, which is approximately the expected battery life of the RFID chip inside. This chip is what enables your tickets and FastPass+ Reservations to be stored, as well as having the MagicBand alert an attraction camera that you are nearby, snapping a perfect photo of you on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. If your previous MagicBand is only one year old, I would not hesitate to bring it with me to start my vacation with my Resort reservations on Disney’s Magical Express. The battery in such a “recent” MagicBand should be just fine for the end of summer. If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you’ll of course be able to customize a new MagicBand 2 in a new color with a new nickname, or you may choose to decline another band.

The choice is yours! Go with the “Bare Necessities” or  some new Pixie Dust. Either way, have a fabulous visit to the most magical place on Earth! ~ Lindsey P.
