Do you have to have a magic band for the parks if you are not staying on property?

    Hello Breanna!

Welcome back again to planDisney! You are especially welcome to visit us with your excellent questions that we are glad to answer! Staying "off-property" is something my family got to experience last winter break and it was a huge learning experience that I am glad to share with you!

MagicBands and MagicBand+ is a completely voluntary but very cute accessory for anyone who visits Walt Disney World Resort. It is helpful but you do not need it to enter the Parks or tap into Lightning Lanes or Virtual Queues. You can use a regular ticket card obtained from Will Call ticket booths located at all four Theme Parks or the Disney Ticket Center in Disney Springs. I love getting a physical ticket card as there are several cute designs with the current ones being inspired by the Disney100 celebration. I'm hoping to collect all four! You can also go completely digital and use the MagicMobile Service which will put a digital card in your smartphone. The digital MagicMobile process also lets you personalize the card in your digital wallet. I am currently enjoying a pirate-themed card design which makes me feel jaunty and hungering for rum. There is a possibility that these feelings are not because of the design and just how I feel on this Friday evening.

If you do walk past a MagicBand or MagicBand+ display case and see a band that just calls to you because it is adorable, well-themed, or just sparkly please know that is a fun investment! It took me a while to jump on the MagicBand+ boat but now I'm sailing with joy. I love the designs and how they make things convenient. The lights and haptics excite my kids and it is a fun way to get them moving through the Parks. You will find me telling my kids quite often to keep moving as I have just spotted a golden statue up ahead that may light up the band! The excitement of seeing what colors they will see and what the statue will do is one of my kid's favorite things to do. Make sure to secure them tightly to your wrist though with something like a small ponytail elastic. Don't tell anyone, but my son's lovely Fantasmic!-themed band was loose and fell into the Seven Seas Lagoon on our last trip. It was heartbreaking and trust me, the bands don't float. I'm hoping Ariel and not Tick-Tock the Crocodile finds it. Learn from my mistakes.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions please feel free to let me know directly!

    Happy Planning!

Meet the Panelist: Nimmy, New York

Hey, it's Nimmy from New York! Just like my guy Jiminy Cricket I am your wisecracking and helpful guide to making the best decisions for your Disney vacation! My husband and I work very hard to journey to our favorite place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort, as much as we can. We have traveled as just adults, with babies, kids, teenagers, and senior citizens. We have seen so many characters, eaten at amazing places, and consumed a ton of Dole Whips. So "give a little whistle" and let me be your guide! Learn More About Nimmy
