Hi Lana! Thanks for reaching out to planDisney.
There are currently two different DisneyBands available right now at the resort at different
merchandise locations: the second generation and DisneyBand+. DisneyBand+ is the latest version and is my favorite. Of course, they do everything the second generation does. For example, if you are staying at a
Disney Resorts Collection Hotel, you can unlock your hotel room door, charge items back to your room, and tap into the parks. But in addition, these new DisneyBands also interact with certain attractions,
character statues throughout the parks, and
nighttime spectaculars like
Happily Ever After in
Magic Kingdom Park.
A second-generation DisneyBand (one that does not have the interactive features) would not be able to function if connected to a Guest under 3 because they would need to be linked to an adult's
My Disney Experience account to access the parks, charge back to the rooms, etc. However, if you purchase a DisneyBand+ for your Guest under 3, the interactive features (i.e. lighting up with attractions, interacting with statues, etc.) should work. All you would have to do is make sure that your child is listed under "
My Family & Friends" and assign the DisneyBand+ to them.
Lana, I hope that I've answered your question and that you have a wonderful visit to the
Walt Disney World Resort. You may want to take the suggestion that my fellow panelist and friend,
Nimmy, gave to a Guest asking a similar question. Since these bands tend to be big, even when adjusted, you may want to secure them with a rubber band so they don't fall off your child's small wrists!
If you have any other questions, please feel free to
reach out again! And if you want to know more about planning a vacation to the resort with little ones, be sure to check out the
planDisney Guide to Planning your Walt Disney World Resort Vacation with Little Ones and the recent
planDisney Podcast that talks about visiting the resort with younger Guests. My friend
Nimmy would also be happy to help as well!
Some people are worth melting for,
Matt
