I have a magic band from 2018. My account still lists it as "active". How do I know for sure that it will still work when I go in August of 2023.

Hi, Ramona thanks for visiting planDisney. I am happy you stopped by with your question. Let's get this started because your trip is quickly approaching.

Summer trips to "The Most Magical Place on Earth" are always at the top of my list. It seems this year it is also at the top of yours. EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is starting just a couple of days before your arrival date. This festival is my favorite because of the returning dishes and always love the new plates available at the many Global Marketplaces around the World Showcase. Another instant win is the perfect pairings available at each location, the craft beer, fine wine, and other spirits will make your experience an incredible one. Don't worry if you aren't interested in the adult beverage options, there are usually non-alcoholic pairings to keep the food in your belly company. I usually have a gift card or two loaded to make sure my bank account is protected because I will continue to eat and eat.

This is one of my pro tips, grab a gift card at the beginning of your trip and load a specific amount so you don't go over budget. If that is not an issue then using MagicBand+ or your MagicBand from 2018 which will be linked to your My Disney Experience App is a perfect option. Just make sure you update any card information and you won't have to carry cash or even a wallet. That Magicband in question does not have a way to check for sure if it is still working. Personally, the longest I have had a MagicBand operate is 5 years after the original purchase date and the shortest is 3 years. Keep your 2018 band "active" on your app and just be ready to purchase a new one if the battery has died. There are so many new cool designs to pick from, I would recommend going with a MagicBand+ because you will not run into this issue again. All MagicBand+ have a recharging cable. The special features will only work with a fully charged MagicBand+ but the basic functions will remain operational like paying for food or entering the parks.

I hope this information is useful to help plan your trip this summer. Be sure to visit again at planDisney.com and feel free to ask me a question and I will be happy to help again.

    See ya real soon,

    Jeremy A.
