I have made reservations for little mermaid room at art of animation for our trip at the end of September. Thinking of changing it to Animal Kingdom Lodge. I have 2 little ones, 2 and 7. Which hotel would you choose and why? This is our 1st time to WDW.

    Hi Fitriyani,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question about your first visit to Walt Disney World Resort!

Although my little guy certainly did love Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, he tells me all the time that his absolute “first favourite” Disney Resort Hotel is absolutely Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. And I absolutely agree with him!

It’s true that, if you’re looking for larger-than-life Disney characters and fun, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is a great spot to stay because you’ll never forget that you’re at Walt Disney World Resort. That being said, I really enjoy Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge for the relaxing, almost peaceful vibe that just flows over me when I walk through the door. The sights and even the smells from the Lodge’s excellent dining options transport me to another world, far from the hustle and bustle of the Theme Parks. Because your two little ones might be on overload at the end of the day, a little bit of peace might be just what the doctor ordered!

In addition, although the Big Blue Pool at Disney's Art of Animation Resort is definitely cool, I love the Uzima Springs Pool and the Samawati Springs Pool, which you’ll find at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani Village, which is about a 10 minute walk away from Jambo House (the “main” part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge). Plus, although the Little Mermaid Standard Rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort are lovely, they are relatively small and quite far from the Big Blue Pool, Resort Transportation and the Resort’s food court, Landscape of Flavors

Finally, let’s not forget the main attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge: your animal neighbours! Even to this day, my son (who is turning 7 this fall) always runs to our balcony when we return to our room, excited to see which animal might be lazing the day away right outside our door. It truly is an unforgettable sight to behold.

Regardless of which Disney Resort Hotel you ultimately chose, you’ll absolutely have a wonderful time. But, for all of the reasons described above, I’d give Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge the edge over your current choice.

Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions. We love helping Guests plan their First Visit to Walt Disney World Resort!

    Have a Magical Day,

    Lynne
