we made reservation with another family so we will be a party of 8. We will be using our dining plan, so is the 18% based on our bill of 2 children 2 adults? also how much is normal for housekeeping?

Hello Marylynn! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

When you make an Advanced Dining Reservation for 6 or more guests at a Walt Disney World Resort Dining Location the automatic gratuity of 18% will be added to the bill. If you ask for separate bills and pay for your bill of 2 adults and 2 children, the 18% will be calculated from the total of your bill only.

When calculating a tip for "Mousekeeping", there is no set standard for an amount that should be left.  My rule of thumb is $1 per day plus a $1 for each person in the room. When I stay with my family of 4, I leave a $5 tip every time I know that the room will be made up (daily for general reservations, bi-weekly for Disney Vacation Club Resort stays).

Before our trips, my kids to decorate a paper "Mousekeeping" tip holder to ensure that the Mousekeeper knows that the tip is for them as a more personal "thank you". Besides, we're messy folks and those tasked with picking up after us deserve it!

    Bon Appétit!
