Just made res. for 4/4-4/10, late on character dining, are there any restaurants that are just plain FUN (silly servers, magicians, etc.) that I should try to get? Going to all but Epcot. Kids are 11, 9 and 5

    Hi Amy,

Great question!  There are a lot of restaurants at Disney World that I think would fit into the "just plain fun" category.

    • Whispering Canyon Cafe - located in the Wilderness Lodge. This has to be one of my family's favorite restaurants.  The food is great and children can join in many games and general tomfoolery.
    • 'Ohana - located in the Polynesian.  This is another restaurant where the kids can let loose. Throughout dinner there are opportunities for coconut races, hula hoop contests and other fun distractions.
    • SciFi Drive Inn - located at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  Your table is designed to look like a car at a drive inn movie theater.  While you dine, clips from old science fiction movies are played on the giant screen.  Not sure if they still do this, but last time we were there the children's "plates" were actually glow in the dark frisbees.
    • 50's Prime Time Cafe- also found at Hollywood Studios.  You're seated at a "TV Table" with a television that broadcasts clips of popular shows from the 1950s.  "Mom" is your server and will make sure you eat all of your veggies before having dessert.  The dessert menu is displayed on a View Master.
In addition to these restaurants, you might want to consider a dinner show.  Hoop Dee Doo Review is a country-western musical comedy review that, although kind of corny, will probably have your children laughing hysterically -- they seem the perfect age for it.  If you're looking for something a little more subdued, but equally entertaining, consider the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
