Luv this panel ! I am a planning fanatic. We have a trip booked Jan. 20-27. I just found online that POR and ASMovies is sold out. Thinking about going Jan. 2-9 because of this. Why would these resorts be so busy during a slow time?

I have been researching this time frame as well as our family is visiting WDW in January.

First, the Martin Luther King holiday brings more families to Disney World due to schools being out for 1-2 days. My son's school district has off on Monday and Tuesday.

Next, there is a large convention being hosted at the WDW Dolphin and Swan. Last year, this convention brought in approximately 7,000 attendees. On the Lotusphere website, there are rooms being offered at the Swan, Dolphin, Yacht and Beach Club, Riverside and All Star Sports. I'm sure other attendees are booking their own rooms at other locations on WDW property as well. Since the conventioneers are usually in sessions all day, this convention should not dramatically increase theme park attendance during the day. Since the website encourages attendees to book their rooms prior to December 19, it is possible that a block of rooms has been set aside at the above-mentioned resorts.

The conference is January 18-22, 2009. I was looking at Port Orleans Riverside which is not showing standard room availability from January 18-21st. Again, I"m not sure if these rooms are booked or just blocked off.

We love this time of year at WDW. Since you are arriving near the end of MLK week, you should be fine!
