Hi! We were lucky enough to score Magic Bands for our October trip. I've heard that you can purchase wristband for the Food and Wine Festival - are these the same bands? If not, can you load the magic bands with Food and Wine Credits?

    Hi Jennifer,

The wristbands I believe you are referring to are mini-gift cards with a wrist strap that are made available every year for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. My husband and I usually buy the gift cards because they are convenient to use as you visit all the food kiosks of the festival. The gift cards make it easy to keep track of how much you are spending because each receipt shows you the remaining balance on the card.

This is different from the MagicBands, which let you charge your purchase to the credit card you have on file with your room reservation.

On our trip to the festival last weekend, we used our MagicBands instead of a gift card to charge each taste purchase The MagicBands were very convenient, but, I have to admit, almost too convenient. Without that running tally of how much we were spending, we ended up going over our normal budget for the festival.

On our next visit, we will go back to using the mini-gift cards.

I'm not sure if you will be using the Disney Dining Plan on your vacation. If so, you should also know that a number of items in the Food and Wine Festival marketplaces can be purchased with your snack credits. Those are clearly marked on the menus, and you can use your MagicBands to "pay" with Dining Plan credits.

I hope that clarifies the differences in the wristbands for you. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions before you arrive. Enjoy your entire visit, especially your time at the Food and Wine Festival, which is my favorite Disney special event.
