Hello lovely Disney Staff! Are genie plus tickets a pay per ride system, or does it keep a sort of old format like the Fast-passes where you buy a ticket and then you use it on a number of ride bookings per day?

    Hello Chane,

Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question! I hope it's because you are working on some magical vacation plans of your own.

There are two new ways these days to skip the lines for popular attractions: Disney's Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes. Although both have some similarities to the old FastPass system, there are some unique differences that I will try to explain.

Let's start with Disney Genie+. For a daily fee, guests can choose to add Genie+ to their tickets for their entire stay at Walt Disney World, or they can add this benefit each day as needed. Beginning at 7 AM, you can make your first Genie+ reservation. You'll be given a return time window for that ride, very much like the FastPass system. Once you arrive at the attraction, you'll enter the Lightning Lane and scan either your tickets or Magic Band. As soon as you've checked into your Lightning Lane, you'll be able to make another Genie+ selection for a new attraction. You can continue this process throughout the day, and there are more than 40 attractions throughout Walt Disney World where you can use Genie+. On our most recent trip to Magic Kingdom, we were able to book at least 8 attractions using Genie+. However, in Hollywood Studios, we were only able to make 4, but they were for attractions that we really wanted to ride before switching parks for the day. So, it was definitely worth it for us.

Individual Lightning Lanes are a little different. For a couple of really popular attractions guests must make a separate purchase for each ride to gain Lightning Lane access. For example, right now Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is an Individual Lightning Lane attraction. If you want to skip the lines for this ride, you can pay a fee for each guest who wants to ride and book a timed reservation window. Disney Resort Hotel guests have a slight advantage, because they can begin booking Individual Lightning Lanes at 7 AM, while other guests need to wait until the park opens. With Individual Lightning Lanes, you can choose what time you would like to ride, whereas with your Genie+ selection, you are simply given the next available time slot. You don't have to have Genie+ to make these purchases, and you can only purchase 2 Individual Lightning Lanes per day.

I hope this helps. Have a magical day!
