Love ya moms panel! Sometimes booked table service restaurants get openings the day of. Would there still be a cancelation fee if we cancel our “backup” reservations day of to use the credits at another restaurant?

Hi Rosangela! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! We love when our long-time friends stop by to say hi.

This is a great question as my top Walt Disney World Resort travel tip is to constantly check My Disney Experience for FastPass+ and dining reservations that open up at the last minute due to cancelations. Not only is it wise to keep checking in the months between day one of your 180 day advance dining reservation window and your actual first Disney day, I cannot recommend enough to keep checking for last minute openings while you're in the parks. We actually like to not plan a dining reservation for a meal or two and press our luck with what's open that day; it's a really fun way to be spontaneous and step outside of our comfort zone. We usually end up finding a new favorite restaurant or dish, but also searching for a last minute dining reservations is a fabulous way to pass time in a line.

Yes, if you cancel a reservation the same day of the meal because another restaurant magically opened up, you will be subjected to the backup locations cancellation fee.

However, there is a way to enjoy both places. If you try to book a second reservation around the same time as your original meal, a conflict notification will ask that you cancel your confirmed reservation to move forward with the new one, or keep the original. Yet you're allowed to make a new dining reservation at least 90 minutes away from any other reservations. So you can always keep that first one for dinner and search for the one your heart was really after for just dessert. (Or eat dessert first at the earlier reservation and do dinner later. After all, you are on vacation!)

I hope this helped your plans a bit, Rosangela, and we'll see you real soon!
