Love the Panel! I know the parks are usually really crowded during that week of Christmas/New Years, but what about the DCL? Would that be a good time to take a cruise?

Hi Lisa! Actually the Disney Cruise Line will sail at or near capacity during the extremely popular holiday weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Due to the high demand for these cruises, you’ll also find that the rates for staterooms are at a premium level.

Still, I think it would be a magical time to cruise aboard a Disney ship. The ship will be decked out in its finest holiday décor. I had considered the same itinerary for my family this year but alas my son fears that Santa won’t find us at sea.

Christmas aboard the Disney Cruise Line is an extravaganza. You’ll notice festive décor from the moment that you walk into the terminal at Port Canaveral. Aboard the ship, yards of ribbon, strings of lights, trees, wreathes, a large gingerbread house and costumed characters created a holiday wonderland.

In the atrium, there is often a tree lighting ceremony on the holiday cruises. During your cruise, you’ll be able to pose with characters in their holiday attire for family portraits, sing carols and listen to holiday music. Special activities may include gingerbread house building, decorating stockings, Mrs. Claus reading by the tree and Santa Goofy handing out surprises along with cookies and milk on Christmas morning. Holiday parties pool-side will be scheduled as well.

Castaway Cay also gets a holiday makeover. Look for snowmen  and magical flurries in this tropical paradise!

Oh, and holiday feasts will be served in the dining rooms.

When considering a vacation over a holiday, guests need to consider whether the special festivities are more important than having to pay a higher rate and navigate higher crowds. Also note that if you plan on flying during this time that rates are likely to be higher.

Whenever you decide to cruise with the Disney Cruise Line, your family will enjoy a magical voyage!
