Hi, I love Mom's panel. Is the dinning plans discounted, or is it just paying for food in advance. I was thinking if you bought the same meal through the dinning plan and out of pocket, would it be cheaper through dinning plan.

    Hi Kelly,

Your question is a popular one. Does the Disney Dining Plan actually save you money, or is it really more of a convenience? The answer...it depends. You absolutely can save money with the Disney Dining Plan, especially if you use your table credits at some of the more popular character dining locations or if you tend to order more expensive menu items when you dine out.

In my mind the savings is negligible, mostly because the money that I save I probably wouldn't have spent in the first place if I were not on the plan. We have a family of 5, and it's very rare that we go to a restaurant where all of us order dessert, especially at a counter service restaurant. However, with the dining plan we do.

My favorite thing about the Dining Plan is that your entire vacation is paid for in advance. That means once you get to Walt Disney World you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip, rather than look at the prices on the menu and wonder if it fits into your daily budget.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
