Kungaloosh, Michael!
As you know, Pleasure Island was an area dedicated to nightlife and clubs where The Landing now currently stands in Disney Springs. This was a highly popular location from 1989 until 2008. I created a tight-knit, dedicated group of fans that still hold tight to their memories of Pleasure Island to this day! I so wish that I could have experienced The Adventurers Club while it was in operation -- I especially think that my Indiana-Jones-loving husband would have LOVED this club! The artifacts, comedy, puppets, animatronics, and cast look amazing in every single video/article I have seen about this old club.
The Club's Gleemeister, Colonel Critchlow Sunchbench, was a rowdy fellow that I SO wish was available for you to sing with and meet at Disney World. I'm sad to say that, as far as we know, the original Colonel Critchlow Sunchbench puppet is currently in the Disney Archives. There have been walk-around versions of Colonel Critchlow Sunchbench (along with other members of the Adventurers Club) that have made appearances at Cast Appreciation Events at Magic Kingdom, but they have not crossed into spaces where typical guests of the theme parks can interact with them. There is, however, a signed picture of him at the Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar -- but it is located in Disneyland near the Disneyland Hotel.
As for our furry friend, Yakoose, I'm afraid that his whereabouts are currently unknown. There is another nod to him at Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar in Disneyland... BUT I am also happy to report that there is a nod to Yakoose in Disney World TOO! If you go the
Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar at Disney Springs in Disney World (which happens to be right where Pleasure Island used to be) while you're visiting you can find a passport belonging to Samantha Sterling (a member of the Adventurers Club), a picture that features some of the members of the Adventurers Club, AND an ice machine made by Yakoose Ice Company! These are some fun Adventurers Club nods that you might want to check out! You can also see some similar friends (probably the cousins of Yakoose, if I were guessing) at Country Bear Musical Jamboree in Magic Kingdom! These talking/singing animal busts are sure to give you a giggle, and the show is fantastic!
Michael, I can't let you go without pointing you in the direction of the ride Jungle Cruise in Magic Kingdom, and its corresponding restaurant
Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. Both of these locations are set around the same time and have similar theming to The Adventurers Club. AND there is a dessert you must get as an Adventurers Club fan! The Kungaloosh! is a chocolate cake with caramelized bananas that is served with cashew-caramel ice cream that is sprinkled with coffee dust. Not only will you get a little nod back to the Adventurers Club, but you'll also get a delicious treat!
You can also get the Kungaloosh Spiced Excursion Ale at the
Nomad Lounge Bar in Animal Kingdom! If you're a pin trader, keep your eye out for official Disney Adventurers Club pins when you're trading! You never know when you might find some artifacts circulating!
I hope that you have SO much fun on your upcoming excursions! I'll leave you with the Adventurers Club All-Purpose Theme Song:
♫ Marching along we're Adventurers
Singing the song of Adventurers
Up or down
North, south, east, or west,
An Adventurer's life is best.
KUNGALOOSH! ♫
HOOPLA, Michael!
