Love you idea about shipping snacks to the resort you are staying at:) We will be going in late July, staying at port orleans riverside, we have decided not to do the meal plan and just eat at the cheap places 15.99 pp and under. Have you ever done this b4

    Hi Kelli,

Thanks for your question!  I think I am one of the last hold-outs when it comes to the dining plan.  I have super picky eaters, we don't have big appetites, and I have a strong desire to keep my days flexible rather than be locked into specific dining times....so I have yet to try the dining plan.  I think I may on my next trip just for comparison though!

I've saved a lot of money by shipping myself a box, we tend to eat one fairly large counter service meal per day, and snack on small things otherwise.  When we eat at table service, I don't feel like I have to eat my moneys worth (like I would if I were on the dining plan), so I tend to eat better and only order what I really want.  I think one of the biggest cost pitfalls is snacks.  I know my kids always want a treat like a bag of Cheetos, but they are expensive and a much larger portion than they need.  So I love to get the tiny snack size ones and ship them myself, so they still feel like they are getting a treat, but the cost and portion is controlled.

It's also nice to have granola bars, cereal bars, single serving cereal (you can purchase milk at the resort and keep it in your room refrigerator) to make a quick breakfast when trying to get your day started.  Pack some plastic spoons and bowls too!

If you're shipping a box, one other suggestion would be to head to a dollar store and pick up some glow sticks/necklaces and throw them in too.  The kids are just as happy to have these, and it saves you from buying the pricey light up toys!

    Hope this helps!
