We love to cruise but have never done a Disney cruise. I've heard they are wonderful! We are a family of 5, with 3 young children. What are our stateroom options? Will we have to book an expensive suite? Tell me how to make it happen! :)

We absolutely love cruising too. Our first voyage aboard the Disney Cruise Line exceeded all of our expectations. It seemed that the amenities we found lacking on other cruise lines were all top-notch on DCL.

If you are familiar with the Walt Disney World resort, then you know that it's almost always less expensive to reserve two standard rooms rather than one large suite. The same applies on the DCL ships.

DCL offers much larger standard staterooms than other comparable ships. In fact, one of the best features of the staterooms is the split bathrooms. Split bathrooms are found in categories 4-10. One room has a sink and toilet. The other room has a second sink and tub/shower. So you'll immediately notice the attention to detail in the rooms as well as the extra space.

For my family, the best part of the DCL staterooms is their attractive decor. Nothing garish in these rooms!

Your most reasonable option is likely to be two deluxe inside staterooms in category 10. Book connecting staterooms and you'll have more space to spread out. Plus you'll have the convenience of more than one bathroom!

Book your cruise far in advance and ask for cabins 5022 and 5024 or 5522 and 5524. These staterooms have partially obstructed portholes. While the view won't be spectacular you will enjoy some natural light at an inside stateroom rate!

Next, watch for discounts. A good place to find discounted information is at mousesavers.com. Check out the current Kids Sail Free promotion for dates this Winter and Spring.

When traveling with extended family, we found that connecting staterooms allowed us to feel like we were in a suite.
