Are there a lot of people who camp in tents at the campgrounds or just campers? Thinking of taking family for first camping trip on our visit to Disney. How are the facilities? I'm not really an outdoorsey person lol, need a toilet and a shower! Thanks!!

Heather, I love your honesty! Although I loved tent camping and the backwoods living when I was younger I have graduated to enjoying a nice shower and certainly modern plumbing!

I have gone through the tent site loop at Fort Wilderness and although I have not camped in that location the loop is quite beautiful.  The sites are large and come with picnic tables and grills.  There are modern facilities in a comfort station and I have always been impressed at how clean they can keep these throughout all the loops. I believe there are two comfort stations in the tent loop.

This is a great way to plan a Disney vacation and not have the high cost of staying in a resort. Fort Wilderness offers so much to make your stay enjoyable from the great Hoop Dee Doo dinner show at Pioneer Hall or Mickey's Backyard Barbecue. Every night you can enjoy Chip and Dale's Campfire Singalong too followed by a movie under the stars.

Recreation in the Fort is abundant. It includes canoeing, kayaking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, pony rides, tennis, and Segway tours.  There are two pools located throughout the area with the larger one in the Meadows recreation area which is pretty much in the middle of the property. There is an internal bus system that will get you to all locations and also to the main bus area where you can catch a bus to the parks or Downtown Disney.  To reach the Magic Kingdom you can hop on the boat launches for an enjoyable ride. These boats will also connect you to the Contemporary resort and Wilderness Lodge resort.

There are two trading posts for any last minute needs. The food choices are simple but include such staples as bread, eggs, milk, etc.  Fort Wilderness is very peaceful and a great place to return to after a busy day in a park!
