We have a lot of kids in our party that like to play in the sand. Are beach tents like the Neso ok to bring on our Bahamas cruise? Or will there be plenty of seating with umbrella tents on the beach?

    Hiya, Tina!

There's nothing better than a gorgeous day at the beach! My kids would happily spend all day in the sand and the surf, so I can definitely share a few tips with you.

Small portable tents designed for the tiniest sailors are allowed on Disney Cruise Line, but larger tents and personal beach umbrellas cannot be brought onboard. But don't worry! Destinations like Disney Castaway Cay have lots of umbrellas and shady spots to enjoy. We like to hit the beach as early as possible, which also keeps the temperatures cooler. I've discovered a few items over the years that help keep everyone safe and happy in the sun:

    • UPF-blocking swim shirts! These make a huge difference, especially while kids are splashing in the waves and might not realize they're starting to get a little toasty. I found some for my kids that zip like jackets, so they're easy to get on and off.
    • A great wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun off your face and neck. Make sure you pick hats with a chin strap, sometimes the beach is breezy! I have a packable hat that is so enormous I don't know if I look goofy or glamorous, but I don't get sunburned so it's a win. My daughter loves her hat with a hole in the back for her ponytail to go through!
    • Water shoes are a must. The sand can be very warm! Some kids like sandals and flip-flops, but mine don't like sand getting into the sides of their shoes very much. We usually switch to pool socks when we hit the beach.
    • Waterproof bandages are my secret weapon. The tiniest scratch feels tragic when you're in salt water, but a waterproof bandage solves that problem!
    • Stay hydrated! We always fill our reusable bottles on the ship (with plenty of ice) and make an effort to drink often. As it happens, on Disney Castaway Cay the drink stations aren't too far from the ice cream machine...another great way to keep cool!
I think the day we spent playing on the beach at Disney Castaway Cay is in my top five core memories with my kids. We kept it simple and it was just the best day ever. I hope your crew will have lots of perfect beach days during your cruise, Tina!

    Keep moving forward!
