We lost our home and virtually all that we own in the Black Forest Fire in Colorado this past June. We will be at WDW to ring in the New Year. I would love for my boys (13/15) to have some unexpected and magical encounters with characters. Best way? Thanks

Hi Sue! I am so sorry to hear the devastation that your family endured this past summer. I can't even imagine what that was like but applaud you for picking yourselves up and continuing on with your lives. A trip to Walt Disney World is a great place to work on getting the family back on track as you will find magic everywhere.

Having a private encounter with a character is an expensive proposition as it costs about $950 per character for a half hour visit. But you will be able to find characters in every park and in many restaurants on property. During the holidays there often are spontaneous character meet and greets in resorts so be sure and ask upon check-in if your resort will be planning any of those during your stay.

I suggest you book a character dining reservation if possible although they do book up quickly in advance. My favorite is Chef Mickey in the Contemporary Resort. Other top ones include Cape May in the Beach Club and Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom. Characters stop and pose for pictures and autographs at each table.

The parks will have many opportunities for meet and greets so check with Guest Relations to see where your son's favorites might be located.

For the most magical experience possible please get either a fastpass or stand in the line to wait for Magical Mickey located in the Theater on the Magic Kingdom's Town Square. Let the cast member know that your sons have been through a lot and they might be able to make it extra special for them. This is the one and only place you will find Mickey actually talking to the guests and your sons will be smiling from ear to ear!

Again I am so sorry for your past difficulties and I am sure Disney will help the family get back on their feet with happiness in your hearts!
