Hi Lori, I would love to do the Wine & Dine Family 5k in Nov. and was wondering if you think it is appropriate for my 8 year old son to do? OR would the kids races be better for him? Do the kid's races occur right after the 5k is finished? Thanks!

Hi Jackie!  The Wine and Dine weekend is my favorite runDisney weekend!  I think your son would be fine doing either one.  The 5K is truly a family event.  There are all levels and ages that participate and there is no pressure to be fast.  It really depends on how far your son wants to go.  My boys have done the kid's races and the 5K's and they love them both.  The 5K's tend to have a little more "Disney magic" because they are able to fit more in.  And of course, my boys love the water stops and being able to say they did a 5K.
You may also want to consider if you are wanting to run the entire 5K or if you are OK with sticking with your son.  My boys generally take out faster than me, but I eventually catch up, and then I slow down and finish with them.  They have not figured out the "pace yourself" mentality of racing!
The 5K will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday with the Kid's Races starting at 10.  The 5K is in Animal Kingdom, so your son may think that is really cool!
Basically, I think he will love either one, so you can decide what you think he is ready for!
