Hi Dana! Congratulations on signing up for the Princess!
I'm sorry that it was a confusing explanation! Basically, the run/walk/run method is a way to break your long runs up into shorter distances with walk breaks.
Jeff Galloway is runDisney's official trainer, and he is also the creator of the run/walk/run method. He usually suggests running for a short period of time (whatever you can do) and then follow it up with a walk break. For example, run 30 seconds, walk one minute, and keep repeating. You can work your way up to longer runs. I like to mix my intervals up on my runs. Sometimes I will run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute, and other times I do a straight 30 second run/30 second walk. (there are some great apps for your phone that will beep at the interval times so you don't have to keep watching the time, and most sport watches also offer interval timers)
If I am running a short distance, I make my run portions longer, followed by shorter walking portions. But, if I am running a long distance, then I shorten my run times and lengthen my walk times. (for a 5K, I generally run 5 minutes, walk 30 seconds for the entire race. For a half marathon, I like to do a 3 minute/1 minute ratio)
The beauty of this method is that you can make it work for you! Play around with it and see what feels comfortable. I didn't start out using this method, but my run/walk/run half marathon times are much faster then when I tried to run the whole thing!
You can find some great information on Jeff Galloway's website. (www.jeffgalloway.com) He also made a
video for runDisney about his run/walk/run method!
Please let me know if you have any other questions:)
