Lori--2 weeks til EEC! Doing HS a bit Sat before race. Where/what should we eat that would be great that day? We know to drink plenty of water, but unsure about food! It is our first time with night race! :). Thanks so much!

Hi Jamee!  I am so excited about the Expedition Everest Challenge!  It will be really fun!

I understand your concern about racing at night.  Last year's Wine and Dine was my first night race.  First, I recommend doing a practice "run".  I would do it this coming weekend.  Choose what foods you think will work for you and eat it during the day this weekend (or whatever day works best for you to run at night), and then run about 3 miles in the evening to see how you feel.

I recommend sticking with bland, carb-filled foods.  Since it is only a 5K, you won't need a ton of carbs, but you still don't want to eat things high in fiber that will upset your stomach when running.

For the Wine and Dine, I had a bagel, eggs and bacon for breakfast.  Then some pasta with a light sauce (like marinara) for lunch.  I ate a protein bar and peanut butter sandwich for dinner.  It worked really well.  There was nothing in there that was heavy and made me feel sick during the half marathon.  I would also recommend not going crazy with fiber-filled foods and greens for two days prior to the race.  I love my salads and veggies, but they don't always sit well with me when I try and run!

To be honest, I prefer running at night.  I never seem to eat enough in the morning and always feel really empty and hungry during morning races.  The night race was perfect!

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck at the race!
