Lori, I am registered for the WDW Marathon in Jan 2013. It is my first marathon, so no idea how I will be feeling after. Would you recommend for me to run in the beginning of our trip and then park viisits for few days, or other way around?

Hi Robert!  This is a great question, and one that I have struggled with in the past.

I think that the answer will depend a lot on how much you have trained for the race.  I have found that if I have properly trained, then I really don't feel that bad after it and walking around the next few days is actually a good way to help keep me loosened up.  I will always be a little sore and stiff, but a couple of hours and a dose of Disney magic is just what I need to feel better.  I generally allow race day to be a "resort day" for my kids.  They can swim, play outside, go to the kids activiies, etc., while I nap.  Then we get an early bedtime and hit the parks the next day.

With that being said, I HAVE done the parks before the race.  It was fine too, but I do think walking around that much will affect your legs on race morning.  I also think having a race coming up (especially a first) can add some nervous energy that I don't really enjoy having when I am on a family vacation in the happiest place on earth!  Constantly thinking about my diet and the need to get rest can put a damper on being carefree and soaking up all of Disney that you can.

And finally, there is no better feeling than hitting the parks on Monday morning with your shiny medal around your neck! I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any other questions leading up to the marathon.  It is the 25th anniversary, so I know it will be awesome!
